Lichen Walk with Naturalist Tom Walker

  • Plain Road West Greenwich, RI United States (map)

Lichens are common yet overlooked components of our forests and fields. They break rock down into the soil, stabilize bare soil, provide shelter for invertebrates, and many other things. Join naturalist Tom Walker as we search for and learn about these fascinating symbiotic organisms.

Tom Walker is a graduate of the University of Amherst, Massachusetts, with a B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. He had worked for the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, conducting wildlife surveys in Oregon, Washington, and California before returning to New England. He has many natural history interests and has given presentations and led walks on lichens, fungi, dragonflies, and trees for several organizations. He currently works for the Provincetown Water Department.
